Doug Gould Ph.D.

Research Advisory Board

Dr. Gould is a Professor, Vice-Chair for Research and the Denise B. Evans Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology in the Department of Ophthalmology at University of California, San Francisco. He earned a PhD in Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada and performed postdoctoral studies at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. In 2005 and 2006 Dr. Gould published manuscripts in Science and The New England Journal of Medicine, reporting the discovery of COL4A1 mutations in individuals with porencephaly and small vessel disease. For the past fifteen years, Dr. Gould has dedicated his career to defining and understanding the multi-system disorder caused by COL4A1 and COL4A2 mutations. He directs a team of researchers whose goal is to discover and develop disease modifying interventions.
